Case Study: Five9 & Advids - Marketing Launch Video For Enhanced Customer Service Experience

Marketing launch video

A case study on utilizing the Advids Clarity & Engagement Framework to translate a complex, multi-faceted software platform into a fluid, compelling 2D motion graphics video for a major corporate marketing launch.

Summary

This case study examines the production of the corporate marketing launch video for Five9, The Intelligent Cloud Contact Center. The primary challenge was to visualize a complex, abstract software ecosystem in a way that felt simple, integrated, and human-centric. Advids employed its Clarity & Engagement Framework, a specialized 2D motion graphics workflow, to distill this complexity. Over a six-week production, Advids navigated a critical Motion Design challenge—orchestrating dozens of on-screen elements—to deliver a video that became a cornerstone of the client's marketing launch, successfully communicating the platform's core value of unified power.

The Challenge

Five9's platform is not a single product; it's an entire ecosystem that integrates data analytics, workflow automation, customer relationship management, and multi-channel communications. The client needed to explain this "all-in-one" power without overwhelming their audience with technical jargon or a cluttered visual representation. They needed to make "integration" feel fluid and "intelligence" feel approachable.

The Solution

Advids developed a 2D motion graphics explainer that relied on a clean, abstract visual language and sophisticated, seamless transitions. By using a central character (the agent) as an anchor, we visualized the platform as an extension of their capabilities. The solution was to create a "holistic view," where data, calls, and workflows orbited the user in a fluid, accessible "dashboard," demonstrating control and clarity rather than chaos.

Client Profile

Five9 is a leading provider of intelligent cloud contact center software. Their platform empowers businesses to manage customer interactions across all channels, utilizing automation and data analytics to improve both agent efficiency and customer experience.

Project Objective

To produce a high-impact, 2D animated video for a major marketing launch. The video needed to:

  1. Clearly explain the integrated benefits of the Five9 platform.
  2. Adhere to Five9's strong corporate brand identity and color palette.
  3. Feel modern, fluid, and premium, setting them apart from competitors.
  4. Visualize complex, abstract software concepts in a simple, tangible way.

The Production Deep Dive: From Abstract Concept to Fluid Motion

Phase 1: Visual Strategy: Defining a Digital Language

Goal: To translate the complex concept of "integrated cloud intelligence" into a clear, compelling visual metaphor.

Process: The first step was to move beyond the literal. Instead of just showing screenshots, the Advids team developed a visual strategy centered on a "holistic dashboard." We proposed a clean, minimalist style that used Five9's brand colors as functional elements—blue for data, yellow for customer interactions, and pink for agent actions.

(IMG ASSET 1)

(Timestamp: 2s) The opening shot immediately establishes the "problem" of a cluttered, disjointed workflow that the video will solve.

Action: We established a clear set of visual rules: fluid lines would represent data flows, circles would represent customers or agents, and User Interface elements would be simplified to their core function. This strategy, approved in the Style_Frames_Option_C.png artifact, gave us a simple "alphabet" to build our complex "sentences."

Phase 2: Vector Illustration: Building the Brand's World

Goal: To create a comprehensive library of bespoke vector assets that were 100% brand-aligned and "animation-ready."

Process: Our illustration team worked directly from the approved visual strategy to build every component of the video. This included characters, icons for data (charts, graphs), abstract User Interface windows, and stylized backgrounds.

(IMG ASSET 2)

(Timestamp: 23s) This "zen mode" shot visualizes the agent's control, surrounded by the complete library of custom Vector Illustration assets Advids created.

Action: A key part of this process, and a core Advids strength, is optimizing assets for animation. Every element was created in Vector Illustration software, properly layered and grouped, to be seamlessly imported into the 2D Animation Suite. This preparation ensured our animators could (for example) make a character's arm move without having to "break" the original artwork.

Feedback Loop: Honing the Visual Identity

  • Client: "We've reviewed the Style_Frames_Option_C.png and love the color and overall feel. Our only concern is that the main agent character feels a bit generic."
  • Advids: "That's great feedback. We want that character to be a strong anchor. Based on this, we'll revise the character with a more distinct hairstyle (the pink hair) and a more modern headset design. This will make her feel more unique and aligned with the brand's innovative tone."

Phase 3: The Critical Juncture: Orchestrating Complexity in Motion

Goal: To animate the "holistic dashboard" scenes (e.g., 00:57) in a way that felt "integrated" and "fluid," not "cluttered" and "chaotic."

Process: This was the project's most significant technical challenge. The client's core value proposition was "integration," and the scene at 00:57 had to visualize this perfectly. Our initial tests (Dashboard_Sequence_Test_R2.mp4) were technically animated, but they felt busy. The windows and charts popped in with different timings, and the effect was jarring.

(IMG ASSET 3)

(Timestamp: 36s) A key strategic shot showing the integration of disparate data sources (like Salesforce, Slack, and MySQL), setting the stage for the animation challenge.

The Breakthrough: The Advids motion design team solved this not by simplifying the scene, but by orchestrating it.

  1. Hierarchy: In the 2D Animation Suite, all individual dashboard elements (the line chart, the video call, the calendar) were "parented" to a single, invisible "null object."
  2. Mastered Motion: Instead of animating 10 different windows, the team animated this one null object with a single, perfectly smooth Keyframe Animation curve. This master curve controlled the easing and interpolation for all elements simultaneously.
  3. Secondary Motion: With the core "fly-in" motion unified, subtle, individual animations were added back to each element (e.g., the chart animates "on") to give the scene life.

Action: This technical solution (Dashboard_Sequence_Test_R4.mp4) was the breakthrough. It transformed the scene from "a lot of stuff happening" to "one single, intelligent system" in action. It was the perfect visual expression of the client's message.

(Timestamp: 57s) The final "money shot" and Critical Juncture. The fluid, orchestrated motion of all dashboard elements was achieved through advanced Keyframe Animation and parenting.

Feedback Loop: Mastering the Pace and Flow

  • Client: "We've reviewed the Animatic_Full_V2.mp4 on Vimeo Review. The timing feels good, but we're worried the dashboard scenes will feel too busy for the viewer."
  • Advids: "An excellent point. The animatic only blocks out timing, not the quality of motion. The 'busy' feeling is what we will solve with motion design. By using smooth easing and interpolation, the final animation won't feel busy; it will feel fluid and orchestrated. We're already working on a motion test (Dashboard_Sequence_Test_R4.mp4) to show you exactly how we'll achieve this."

Synergy Analysis: Technology vs. Human Expertise

This project's success was a direct result of balancing powerful animation technology with human-centric creative strategy.

  • Technology-Powered Contributions:
    • 2D Animation Suite: The software (Adobe After Effects) provided the technical tools for complex Keyframe Animation, layer parenting, and motion curves.
    • Vector Illustration: Software (Adobe Illustrator) allowed for the creation of scalable, lightweight assets that could be animated without losing quality.
    • Vimeo Review: The platform provided a centralized tool for precise, time-stamped feedback, which was essential for iterating on the complex animation.

  • Advids’ Clarity & Engagement Craft (Human Expertise):
    • Strategic Distillation: The human-led Visual Strategy to distill "cloud intelligence" into the "holistic dashboard" metaphor.
    • Technical Problem-Solving: The Motion Design team's solution to the Critical Juncture—using null objects and mastering interpolation—was a creative, technical fix that software alone could not provide.
    • Brand Empathy: The artistic skill to take a static brand guide and evolve it into a living, breathing motion language that felt premium and aligned with the client's tone.

Outcomes & Strategic Learnings

  • Successful Marketing Launch: The video was a high-performing asset in the client's marketing launch, successfully explaining their complex platform to a wide B2B audience.
  • The Power of Orchestration: The "Critical Juncture" reinforced a key Advids principle: in motion design, how things move is as important as what moves. The fluid, orchestrated motion successfully communicated the core brand message of "integration."
  • A Scalable Visual Language: The production process delivered more than a video; it delivered a complete, animation-ready visual language. The library of vector assets and defined motion principles created by Advids can be easily repurposed by Five9 for future videos, ensuring brand consistency and maximizing the return on investment.
