Case Study: Global Solutions & Advids - DEIB Awareness Campaign Video For Educating Workforce On DEIB

DEIB awareness campaign video

Summary

This case study details the partnership between Advids and a global corporation to create an awareness video for a new Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging initiative. The primary challenge was to communicate this sensitive, complex topic in a way that was universally inclusive and emotionally resonant. By employing The Advids Clarity & Engagement Framework, our team pivoted from traditional, literal concepts to a powerful abstract metaphor. The final 2D motion graphics video used the "journey of a dot" to symbolize an individual's experience of progression and belonging, resulting in a highly successful internal campaign launch.

The Challenge

The client, a global enterprise, needed to launch a company-wide Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging program. They needed a flagship video to set the tone. The challenge was multifaceted: the video had to be accessible to a global audience with diverse languages and cultural backgrounds, it had to feel authentic and inspiring (not like a mandatory human resources-check-box), and it absolutely had to avoid the clichés and stock "people icons" that plague corporate DEIB content.

The Solution

Advids proposed a 2D motion graphics piece that moved beyond literal representation. We developed a universal visual language using abstract shapes and a single "protagonist" dot. This "journey" metaphor allowed us to visualize complex ideas like "navigating complexity," "finding community," and "supported progression" without ever showing a single human form. This approach ensured no one was excluded from the visual narrative and allowed every employee to project their own experience onto the story.

Client Profile

A Fortune 500 corporation with a diverse, global employee base spanning multiple continents and business units.

Project Objective

To create a 60-second animated video to launch a new Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging initiative. The core goals were to build awareness, generate positive sentiment, and communicate the program's core values of support and progression in a universal, inclusive, and visually sophisticated manner.

The Advids Clarity & Engagement Framework

For this project, we utilized our 2D motion graphics workflow, which is designed to distill complex ideas into clear and compelling visual stories.

  1. Visual Strategy: In-depth workshops to define the core message and, crucially, the visual metaphor.
  2. Storyboarding & Animatics: Translating the metaphor into a clear narrative sequence.
  3. Vector Illustration: Creating a clean, modern, and brand-compliant set of visual assets.
  4. Keyframe Animation: Bringing the assets to life with fluid, purposeful motion design.
  5. Sound Design & Mastering: Applying a final layer of emotional polish with audio.

The Production Deep Dive: From Abstract Concept to Fluid Motion

Phase 1: The Conceptual Pivot: Defining a Universal Visual Language

  • Goal: To find a visual metaphor for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging that was truly universal and avoided all clichés.
  • Process: The project's success hinged on this initial phase. Our first strategy document, Visual_Strategy_Options_V1.pdf, included a concept using stylized, multi-colored "people icons." This is a common approach, but the client provided critical, insightful feedback. They felt that any attempt to literally represent diversity would inevitably fail to be fully inclusive.
  • Action (The Critical Juncture): This feedback sparked the project's breakthrough. The Advids creative team pivoted entirely. We proposed a new concept: "the dot's journey." The single dot (0:01) represents the individual—any individual. The "chaos" of shapes (0:06) represents the complexity of the modern workplace. The central circle (0:18) represents the community and a place of belonging. This abstraction was the key, as it moved the focus from visual identity to shared experience.

Feedback Loop: The Breakthrough to Abstraction

  • Client: "We've reviewed the initial concepts. The 'people icon' idea, while well-executed, is exactly what we want to avoid. It feels inauthentic. We need a metaphor, not a literal description."
  • Advids: "We understand completely. What if we remove all human identifiers and focus on the journey? We've developed a new style frame set, Style_Frames_Abstract_V2.png, based on a 'dot' as a universal protagonist."
  • Client: "This is it. This is perfect. It's clean, modern, and emotionally resonant without being prescriptive. We love it. Full approval on this direction."

Phase 3: Keyframe Animation: The "Guided Progression" Sequence

  • Goal: To animate the "progression" part of the metaphor with a feeling of support, smoothness, and ease.
  • Process: After the dot finds its place, the final sequence (0:23-0:31) shows it moving up a series of "steps" that form in front of it. This was the most technically important animation sequence. It couldn't feel like a struggle, nor could it feel sterile. The Advids animation team focused on the keyframe animation and easing (the acceleration and deceleration of motion) to make the journey feel "guided" and "supportive."
  • Action: We delivered Animation_V2_Steps_Sequence.mp4 for review. The client loved the motion but had one small, precise tweak.

Feedback Loop: Precision in Brand Alignment

  • Client: "We are reviewing Animation_V2_Steps_Sequence.mp4 on Vimeo Review. The motion is perfect. It feels exactly like the 'supported progress' we were talking about. One note: our sub-brand guidelines were just updated. Can the fourth step be color-matched to this new hex code: #00A3B0?"
  • Advids: "Consider it done. That's an easy update to the master vector asset. We're glad the motion is landing. We will have the revised version to you by end of day."

Synergy Analysis: Technology vs. Human Expertise

  • Technology-Powered Contributions:
    • Vector Illustration: Allowed for infinitely scalable, clean assets that could be easily re-colored and manipulated.
    • 2D Animation Suite: Advanced keyframe controls (like the graph editor) were essential for achieving the subtle, high-quality easing in the "steps" sequence.
    • Vimeo Review: The platform's on-screen, time-stamped comments were critical for precise feedback (e.g., "change the color of this step at this moment").

  • Advids’ Visualization Craft (Human Expertise):
    • Conceptual Strategy: The "Critical Pivot" was not a technological solution; it was a creative one. The ability to listen to a client's core anxiety (avoiding clichés) and develop a powerful, abstract metaphor was the single most important contribution from Advids.
    • Motion Theory: Technology provides the tools, but our animators' artistry and understanding of motion theory (timing, easing, and visual rhythm) are what gave the video its "guided" and "supportive" feeling.
    • Brand Empathy: We didn't just animate shapes; we animated a story that reflected the client's new, sensitive brand initiative.

Outcomes & Strategic Learnings

  • A Universally Praised Launch: The video was the centerpiece of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging initiative launch. The client reported overwhelmingly positive feedback from internal surveys, with many employees noting the "refreshing," "inclusive," and "inspiring" tone.
  • The Power of Abstraction: This project was a powerful reminder that for sensitive, human-centric topics, abstraction is often more inclusive and effective than literal representation. The Advids team's ability to develop this visual strategy was key.
  • A New Brand Asset: The final logo lockup (0:33), which resolved the "dot" and the "shapes" into a new, harmonious form, was adopted by the client as the official logo for the entire Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging program.

    (IMG ASSET 4 - Timestamp: 33s)

  • Strategic Learning: When communicating complex emotional concepts, a strong, simple, and universal visual metaphor is more powerful than the most complex execution. The challenge is finding that metaphor, a task that sits at the heart of the Advids creative process.
