Case study for Financial infographic animation video

Summary

Advids partnered with Greater Bank to produce a high-energy, 15-second promotional video designed to simplify complex account options and highlight a major cash giveaway. Facing the challenge of communicating binary product choices and legal compliance within a constrained timeframe, Advids utilized the The Advids Clarity & Engagement Framework. By leveraging kinetic typography, precise vector illustration, and a dynamic split-screen visual strategy, we transformed static banking information into a compelling, rhythmic visual narrative that drove user engagement and clearly articulated the "Access" versus "Ultimate Access" value proposition.

Distilling Financial Options into Dynamic Visuals

The core challenge for Greater Bank was density. They needed to present two distinct account tiers—the standard Access Account and the Ultimate Access Account—while simultaneously promoting a "Win $20,000" competition. The narrative had to move from product selection to payment utility (Visa Debit) to incentive (The Prize) in under 15 seconds.

A standard explainer video approach would be too slow. The visual language needed to be instantaneous, using the brand’s distinct orange, blue, and yellow color palette to guide the viewer’s eye without overwhelming them with text. The transition between the two account options needed to be clear but fluid, avoiding a jarring "stop-and-start" feel often found in comparative advertising.

A Kinetic Typography Approach to Product Clarity

Advids devised a solution centered on Kinetic Typography and geometric motion. We treated the text not just as information, but as the primary graphical element that dictated the flow of the video.

To solve the "choice" dilemma, we engineered a rapid diagonal split-screen motif. This allowed us to present both account options simultaneously, using color coding (Orange for Access, Blue for Ultimate) to create an immediate visual distinction. By synchronizing the motion graphics tightly with the upbeat voiceover and sound effects—specifically a finger "snap" to trigger the prize reveal—we created a sense of ease and speed, reinforcing the message that banking with Greater Bank is effortless.

Client Profile

  • Client: Greater Bank
  • Industry: Banking and Financial Services
  • Headquarters: Newcastle, Australia
  • Key Objective: To drive online account openings by clarifying account options and promoting a limited-time cash incentive.

The Advids Clarity & Engagement Framework

For this project, Advids selected our specialized 2D Motion Graphics Module, focusing on vector precision and rhythmic timing.

The Workflow Architecture:

  1. Strategic Script Analysis: Breaking down the voiceover into "beats" for animation.
  2. Vector Illustration: Creating brand-compliant assets (hands, cards, icons).
  3. Style Frame Development: Establishing the flat, geometric aesthetic.
  4. Animatics: Locking the timing of transitions to the audio track.
  5. Motion Design & Rigging: Animating the vector assets and typography.
  6. Compositing & Mastering: Final color grading and export for web delivery.

The Production Deep Dive

Phase 1: Visual Strategy and Vector Asset Creation

The project began with a rigorous focus on Vector Illustration. Advids needed to translate the physical actions of banking—tapping a card, snapping fingers—into clean, scalable graphics. Using Adobe Illustrator, our design team created a library of assets including the stylized hand, the Visa Debit card, and the currency icons.

Feedback Loop: Refining the Color Palette

Client: "The orange background in the storyboard feels a bit too saturated compared to our web guidelines. It needs to be softer to allow the white text to read better."

Advids: "Understood. We have adjusted the background hex codes in Asset_Library_V4.ai to strictly match your digital brand guidelines, ensuring maximum contrast for the typography."

Phase 2: The Critical Juncture – Engineering the Diagonal Split

The most technically demanding sequence occurred at the 00:03 mark, where the screen splits to show the two account options.

  • The Constraint: The animation needed to introduce the "Ultimate Access Account" (Blue) sliding in over the "Access Account" (Orange) without obscuring the text "Open an account" which appears on both sides.
  • The R&D Process: Advids experimented with simple wipes, but they felt too static. We needed the text to react to the background change.
  • The Solution: We utilized a complex parenting hierarchy in Adobe After Effects. We linked the position of the text layers to the leading edge of the diagonal mask. As the blue shape expanded, the text elements shifted subtly in opposition, creating a parallax effect that kept the words centered and legible throughout the transition.

Phase 3: Kinetic Typography and Sound Sync

The energy of the video relied on the "Snap" moment (00:07). The voiceover says, "Just like that!" accompanied by a finger snap sound effect. Advids utilized Time Remapping on the hand animation pre-composition to ensure the frame where the fingers connect matched the exact millisecond of the audio transient. Simultaneously, the text "WIN $20K" was animated with an elastic "overshoot" expression, making the words appear to pop onto the screen with the force of the snap.

Synergy Analysis: Technology vs. Expertise

This project demonstrated the power of combining Adobe Creative Cloud technology with human Motion Design expertise. While software like Adobe After Effects handles the mathematics of keyframes and easing curves, it was the Advids creative team's understanding of rhythm that made the video effective.

The software could generate a diagonal wipe, but it required human intuition to time that wipe perfectly with the word "OR" in the script to create a psychological link between the visual and the audio. Advids bridged the gap between raw animation tools and strategic brand communication.

Outcomes & Strategic Learnings

The final video successfully condensed complex account information into a digestible, high-octane format.

  • Outcome: The video was deployed across social media and pre-roll advertising, delivering high retention rates due to its short duration and constant visual motion.
  • Strategic Learning: For financial products, Kinetic Typography is often more effective than character-driven narrative. By focusing on the words themselves as visual objects, Advids ensured that the core message—opening an account—was impossible to miss, even if the viewer was watching with the sound off.

Next Step for You: Would you like to explore how Kinetic Typography can simplify your complex product offerings into a 15-second social media spot?
