3D Product Animation Video for Stellantis STLA Medium: An EV Platform Shown From the Inside

Stellantis needed to reveal STLA Medium, an EV platform that drivers will only ever see under a body. Advids made a 3D product animation video that builds the platform from its parts, draws 3 body styles over one chassis and turns the body see-through to show the battery, with each claim in its own caption, from "More than 700 km (435 miles) WLTP" to "Up to 2 Million Vehicles Per Year".

The problem: a platform nobody will ever see

STLA Medium is not a car. It is the floor, battery, motors and suspension that future Stellantis cars will sit on. Once a body goes on top, every selling point is hidden: the battery mounted low, the 2 drive layouts, the 400V charging hardware.

So the claims arrive as specs: "More than 700 km (435 miles) WLTP", "2.4 kWh/Minute", "Up to 2 Million Vehicles Per Year". Specs on a slide do not show why the platform earns them. The video had to open the platform up and put each figure on the part that delivers it. Any team selling infrastructure that sits under someone else's product faces the same job.

How the video puts each spec on its part, scene by scene

Every claim sits in a caption bar, so the video works with the sound off. Select a time to play that scene above.

TimeOn screenWhat it does
Parts drop in and lock together: the battery pack, then the chassis. A title names STLA Medium as the first of 4 new Stellantis platforms, then "Key Features" lists 5 bullets, from "Best-in-class Charging" to "Modular Flexibility".Sets the list of promises the rest of the video proves.
The finished chassis turns on a reflective floor under "STLA Medium is a Unibody EV Platform".Shows the whole product once before taking it apart.
"Flexible: One Platform Covers C- and D- Segments", then glowing outlines of a sedan, a crossover and an SUV are drawn over the same chassis: "Multiple Body Styles: Passenger Car, Crossover, SUV". "Modular Design: Range of Wheelbases, Length, Off-Road Capability" follows.Proves the flexibility claim without building 3 cars.
Close-ups of the body structure under "Lightweight, Rigid Materials Balance Curb Weight and Driving Range", then a top view with the motors in orange: "Propulsion: Front-Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive".Points to the parts behind range and drive choice.
The body fades to glass over the floor: "Battery Pack: Mounted Low, Maximizes Interior Space, Adds Structural Rigidity". The pack opens to its cells for "Two Battery Options:" Performance "More than 700 km (435 miles) WLTP" and Standard "More than 500 km (310 miles) WLTP", then "Future Battery Technologies Easily Implemented".Ties each range figure to the battery inside.
A see-through chassis with orange high-voltage cables: "400V Architecture with Best-in-Class Charging Power", "2.4 kWh/Minute", "98 kWh of Useful Energy", "Consumption Less Than 14 kWh/100 km". Then "HVAC, Steering and Braking Engineered to Minimize Electric Consumption and Friction", with "Goal: Maximize Range".Turns charging and efficiency into numbers on hardware.
Rings pulse out of the chassis for "Over-the-Air Updates Will Extend Platform Life", then "STLA Medium Developed in 2 Years with Global Expertise" and "Designed For Scale: Up to 2 Million Vehicles Per Year".Answers how long the platform lasts and how big it goes.
The platform flies apart into its parts, then a star field and the Stellantis logo.Closes on the brand after one last look at the parts.

Storyboard: the frames that carry the Stellantis 3D product animation video

Key frames from the finished video, in order. Select a time to play that moment above.

  • Frame at 0:04: the title "STLA Medium Platform:" over 3D battery modules dropping into the battery tray on a blue set
The reveal starts with parts, not a car: battery modules drop into the tray under the title.
  • Frame at 0:09: the list "Key Features" with "Best-in-class Charging", "Best-in-class Embedded Energy", "Best-in-class Energy Efficiency", "Outstanding Performance and Comfort" and "Modular Flexibility" beside a 3D STLA Medium chassis
5 promises up front, while the chassis is still being assembled.
  • Frame at 0:12: the assembled STLA Medium chassis on a reflective floor with the caption "STLA Medium is a Unibody EV Platform"
The whole platform, shown once before it is taken apart.
  • Frame at 0:24: a glowing crossover outline drawn over the STLA Medium chassis with the caption "Multiple Body Styles: Passenger Car, Crossover, SUV"
One chassis, 3 bodies: a glowing outline proves the flexibility claim.
  • Frame at 0:40: top view of the STLA Medium platform with orange front and rear motors and the caption "Propulsion: Front-Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive"
A top view picks out both motors for the 2 drive layouts.
  • Frame at 0:52: an exploded battery module with the text "Two Battery Options:", "Performance: More than 700 km (435 miles) WLTP" and "Standard: More than 500 km (310 miles) WLTP"
Range figures sit on the open battery, next to the cells that deliver them.
  • Frame at 1:03: see-through STLA Medium chassis with orange high-voltage cables and the text "400V Architecture with Best-in-Class Charging Power", "2.4 kWh/Minute", "98 kWh of Useful Energy", "Consumption Less Than 14 kWh/100 km"
The body turns to glass so the charging hardware carries the 3 numbers.
  • Frame at 1:10: brakes and steering parts lifted from a see-through chassis with the caption "HVAC, Steering and Braking Engineered to Minimize Electric Consumption and Friction" and "Goal: Maximize Range"
Efficiency gets a single goal: maximize range.
  • Frame at 1:19: side view of the STLA Medium chassis with the caption "STLA Medium Developed in 2 Years with Global Expertise"
The development claim, in one line over the finished platform.
  • Frame at 1:22: rear view of the STLA Medium chassis with the caption "Designed For Scale: Up to 2 Million Vehicles Per Year"
The last spec is scale: up to 2 million vehicles a year.

4 decisions behind the STLA Medium 3D product animation video

Decision 1

Draw the bodies, don't build them

From 0:20 to 0:27 glowing outlines of a passenger car, a crossover and an SUV are drawn over one chassis. The orange highlight in "Passenger Car, Crossover, SUV" moves to each word as its outline appears.

Copy it: If one product serves several customer types, show each one on the same core in a single shot instead of cutting between versions.

Decision 2

Turn the body to glass

At 0:44 and again at 0:58 the bodywork fades to glass, so the low battery and the orange high-voltage cables stay in view while "2.4 kWh/Minute" and "98 kWh of Useful Energy" appear.

Copy it: When the selling part is inside, fade the casing in place rather than cutting to a separate diagram.

Decision 3

Put each number on its part

"More than 700 km (435 miles) WLTP" appears at 0:48 over the opened battery cells, not over a parked car. The charging figures sit on the charging hardware.

Copy it: List your specs, name the part that earns each one, and plan a shot of that part for every figure.

Decision 4

Build it at the start, break it at the end

The platform assembles from falling parts in the first 9 seconds and flies apart at 1:24, just before the logo.

Copy it: Open and close on the parts so the viewer sees how much is inside a product they will never see bare.

From STLA Medium 3D models to a 1:34 platform reveal

  1. 3D model cleanup. The chassis, battery pack, motors, suspension and brakes were prepared so each could be shown assembled, exploded or see-through.
  2. Claim order. Scenes follow the platform's claims in a fixed order: unibody, flexibility, structure, propulsion, battery, charging, efficiency, updates, scale.
  3. Texturing and lighting. Bare metal on a blue set, with orange kept for motors and high-voltage cables so they read at a glance.
  4. Dynamic animation. Parts drop in and lock, body outlines draw over the chassis, the battery opens to its cells and the platform flies apart at the end.
  5. Rendering and visual effects. High-fidelity renders, glass bodies, glowing outlines and the update rings were built and rendered.
  6. Compositing and captions. Every claim was set in the same caption bar, with orange highlights on the word that matches the shot.
  7. Sound, edit and grade. Sound design, final editing and color grading finished the 1:34 cut.

Scope of work:

  • 3D model cleanup
  • Texturing
  • Lighting
  • Dynamic animation
  • High-fidelity rendering
  • Visual effects
  • Compositing
  • Sound design
  • Final editing
  • Color grading

Production took 3 to 4 weeks on a budget of $2,500 to $4,000. See the 3D video production service for how a project like this is scoped.
