We Analyzed 100 UI Animation Videos: The Motion Design Trends Elevating Perceived Software Value

Published 12 September 2026 · 17 min read

ADVIDS Research

Perceived value is the reader's test; the files carry no viewer data. What the 100 UI animation videos from 92 software companies show, Q1 2026 against April to August 2026, is where motion design moved: captured product screens appear in 25 of 40 later videos against 22 of 60, drawn motion graphics fall from 41 to 19, 3D leaves the build, kinetic type stops being the format, frames go light and the one-minute video thins at both ends. Videos from Akto, LangChain, Plaid, Microsoft, etc. show the shift.

188 product videos carrying a full visual record were screened against a rule written before intake; 100 qualified, from 92 companies. Every one shows a software interface in motion, carried by an animated mockup, 2D or 3D animation, kinetic type or motion graphics, runs 0:20 to 4:00, and was uploaded to YouTube between 7 January 2026 and 3 August 2026. The window was split at the quarter boundary, 1 April 2026, giving 60 videos in Q1 2026 and 40 from April to August 2026. In this report, a video is one UI animation video and a company is the software company whose interface it shows.

Top takeaways

  1. Captured product screens overtook drawn motion graphics in UI animation videos

Captured product screens define 25 of 40 UI animation videos from April to August 2026, against 22 of 60 in Q1 2026, while drawn motion graphics fall from 41 to 19; later captured-screen videos come from Akto, Anthropic, SAP, AppsFlyer, etc.

  2. 3D left the build; flat 2D carries the interface

3D appears in the build of 5 of 40 UI animation videos from April to August 2026, against 14 of 60 in Q1 2026: Cadence, Dell, ElevenLabs, Showpad, etc. Flat 2D carries the interface in 24 of 40.

  3. Kinetic type stopped being the format and stayed as a beat

Kinetic type is listed as a format for 14 of 40 UI animation videos from April to August 2026, down from 28 of 60 in Q1 2026, while kinetic-type segments still appear in 25 of 40; later kinetic-format videos include Plaid, AFL, Apple, Atlassian, etc.

  4. The one-minute UI animation video thinned at both ends

Videos running 0:46 to 1:30 fall from 35 of 60 UI animation videos in Q1 2026 to 16 of 40 from April to August 2026, while videos of 0:45 or less rise from 6 to 9: Rho, AFL, Bloomfire, Cegid, etc.

  5. UI animation videos went light as mixed light-and-dark videos fell

Light frames rise from 21 of 60 UI animation videos in Q1 2026 to 22 of 40 from April to August 2026, and mixed light-and-dark videos fall from 20 to 7: Cegid, Contentstack, Dell, Jodoo, etc.

Questions this report answers

What are the motion design trends in UI animation videos in 2026?

Across 100 UI animation videos from 92 software companies, uploaded 7 January 2026 to 3 August 2026, 5 shifts separate Q1 2026 from April to August 2026: captured product screens replaced drawn motion graphics, 3D left the build, kinetic type became a beat rather than the format, frames went light and the one-minute video thinned at both ends.

Should a software product video animate the interface or capture it?

The set moved toward capture: screencast builds are 25 of 40 videos from April to August 2026 against 22 of 60 in Q1 2026, with Akto, AppsFlyer, Bloomfire, Contentstack, etc. among the later captured builds. Interface mockups still appear in 22 of 40, so the two are combined more than swapped.

Is 3D still used in software UI animation videos?

Rarely. From April to August 2026, 3D is in the build of 5 of 40 videos and the primary technique in 2, down from 14 of 60 in Q1 2026, while flat 2D or mockup alone, with no 3D or live action, carries 24 of 40.

Do UI animation videos use dark mode or light mode?

Light leads: from April to August 2026, 22 of 40 videos run predominantly light frames, 11 dark and 7 mixed, against 21, 19 and 20 of 60 in Q1 2026. The measure is luminance across nine sampled frames, not the product's theme setting.

How long is a UI animation video?

Median runtime is 1:14 in Q1 2026 and 1:18 from April to August 2026, but the 0:46-to-1:30 band shrinks from 35 of 60 to 16 of 40 as videos of 0:45 or less rise from 6 to 9.

How was this analysis done?

ADVIDS Research screened 188 visually coded videos against a rule written before intake; 100 from 92 companies qualified and were compared, 60 from Q1 2026 against 40 from April to August 2026, across 900 sampled frames and 1061 timed segments. The coded dataset, with every video title and link, ships with the report.

How to read this report

  • The set. 100 UI animation videos from 92 software companies, one per campaign; a company is the software company whose interface the video shows.
  • N of M. A count of videos, never of frames or segments. Q1 2026 holds 60 videos and April to August 2026 holds 40, so both bases travel with every figure; bases under 20 are written as counts.
  • A shift moves at least 10 percentage points, involves at least 8 videos and still clears 10 points without its largest company. No viewer or perception data exists, so perceived value is the reader's test.

Trend 01 · Build · Captured screen · Q1 2026 against April to August 2026

1. Captured product screens overtook drawn motion graphics in UI animation videos

Videos built as a screencast are 25 of 40 UI animation videos published from April to August 2026, against 22 of 60 in Q1 2026, while videos built as motion graphics fall from 41 to 19. Screen capture of the product appears in the build of 12 of 40, up from 11 of 60, and videos that animate an interface without ever capturing it fall from 34 to 18. Interface mockups still appear in 22 of 40, so mockup and capture are combined more than swapped. Build codes are medium confidence for 5 of the 25 later screencast videos and 9 of the 41 Q1 motion-graphics videos. The video is organised around the product's own screens, and the drawn layer decorates them.

Without Anthropic in either period, the screencast rise is still 23.9 points.

Built as a screencast. Companies include, in Q1 2026, AIMS360, Amplience, Asana, etc.; from April to August 2026, Anthropic, SAP, Akto, etc.

Built as motion graphics. Companies include, in Q1 2026, Crestron, Sword Health, Alloy, etc.; from April to August 2026, Cadence, Akto, AppsFlyer, etc.

Google Cloud goes the other way. Its April 2026 Decagon video runs 0:34 of 2D motion graphics on a blue-to-purple gradient, with the chat interface drawn as bubbles and never captured. Where the product is a capability sold through a partner rather than one screen, the drawn interface stands in for a product the viewer will never open.

2. 3D left the build; flat 2D carries the interface

3D appears in the build of 5 of 40 UI animation videos from April to August 2026, against 14 of 60 in Q1 2026, and is the primary technique in 2 against 10. Videos built from flat 2D animation or interface mockups alone, with no 3D and no live action, rise from 29 to 24, a move of 11.7 points that falls to 9.6 without Anthropic's 2 videos. Build codes are medium confidence for 3 of the 5 later 3D videos and 4 of the 14 in Q1 2026. Depth left the interface video; the product is shown flat, at screen scale.

3D in the build. Companies include, in Q1 2026, Cavli Wireless, Enjin, ESSERT Robotics, etc.; from April to August 2026, Dell, ElevenLabs, Showpad, etc.

Cadence goes the other way. Its April 2026 Allegro X HDI overview runs 1:40 of black-background 3D renders of stacked boards and copper vias, intercut with the layout tool's own panels. Where the product designs a physical object, the 3D render is the object the interface is for, not a decoration on it.

Trend 03 · Type · Kinetic type · Q1 2026 against April to August 2026

3. Kinetic type stopped being the format and stayed as a beat

Kinetic type is listed as a format for 14 of 40 UI animation videos from April to August 2026, down from 28 of 60 in Q1 2026, and appears in the build codes of 11 against 25. Kinetic-type segments still appear in 25 of 40 videos, against 32 of 60, a move under the floor, and cover a median 20 per cent of runtime in the videos that use them, against 25 per cent. 18 of the 25 later videos with type segments are screencast builds. The type moved from being the whole video to being a line between screens.

Kinetic type listed as a format. Companies include, in Q1 2026, Amplitude, Blink, Celigo, etc.; from April to August 2026, AFL, Apple, Atlassian, etc.

HubSpot goes the other way. Its June 2026 video runs 0:30 as a kinetic-type piece on a deep maroon ground, with one chart and one prompt panel inside the type. Where the message is a position rather than a workflow, the type is the product shot.

Trend 04 · Frame and length · Runtime · Q1 2026 against April to August 2026

4. The one-minute UI animation video thinned at both ends

Videos running 0:46 to 1:30 fall from 35 of 60 UI animation videos in Q1 2026 to 16 of 40 from April to August 2026, 58 to 40 per cent. Videos of 0:45 or less rise from 6 to 9, and videos over 1:30 move from 19 to 15, under the floor. Median runtime holds at 1:14 and 1:18 while the middle half widens from 0:58 to 1:33 to 0:50 to 1:45, and median spoken words rise from 65 to 101. The set is splitting into the cut-down and the walkthrough, and the one-minute video in between is the one being dropped.

Runtime 0:46 to 1:30. Companies include, in Q1 2026, Campfire, Crisp, Deel, etc.; from April to August 2026, Board, Deliverect, Genpact, etc.

Runtime 0:45 or less. Companies include, in Q1 2026, Bloomfire, ClayHog, Emburse, etc.; from April to August 2026, Bloomfire, Cegid, Google Cloud, etc.

Genpact goes the other way. Its May 2026 Autonomous IT explainer runs 0:58, a flat 2D one-minute video with an illustrated dashboard, floating benefit words and a node diagram, and 115 spoken words. Where one video has to work as the only video, the one-minute middle is still the safe length.

Trend 05 · Frame and length · Frame theme · Q1 2026 against April to August 2026

5. UI animation videos went light as mixed light-and-dark videos fell

22 of 40 UI animation videos from April to August 2026 run predominantly light frames, up from 21 of 60 in Q1 2026. Videos mixing light and dark frames fall from 20 to 7, while dark holds at 19 and 11. Median frame brightness rises from 117 to 154 on a 0 to 255 scale. The measure is luminance across all nine sampled frames, not the product interface's theme setting, and the rise holds outside screen capture: 14 of the 28 later videos with no captured screen run light. One ground for the whole video, and the ground is light.

Mixed light-and-dark frames. Companies include, in Q1 2026, Epicor, GitLab, HCLTech, etc.; from April to August 2026, Contentstack, Jodoo, Ziflow, etc.

Kantar goes the other way. Its April 2026 BrandDigital video runs 1:29 on a deep-space purple-blue ground at a mean brightness of 68, with the dashboard screens inset into the dark. Where the video is about signals in the dark rather than a tool on a desk, the dark ground is the argument.

Data charts on screen move from 10 of 60 to 11 of 40, 10.8 points, which clears the floor by less than a point; it is listed here rather than given a chapter because the decision it informs is small. Burned-in captions move from 2 to 7. Chat panels, dashboards, device frames, notifications and diagrams all hold within the floor.

What to do with this

  1. Trend 01 If 25 of 40 UI animation videos from April to August 2026 are built around captured screens, have the demo tenant populated before the brief is signed.
  2. Trend 02 If 3D appears in 5 of 40, make the 3D vendor argue for its line in the budget.
  3. Trend 03 If 25 of 40 carry type beats and 14 are type pieces, write the on-screen lines in the script against picture, not as a separate deliverable.
  4. Trend 04 If the 0:46-to-1:30 band fell to 16 of 40, decide which end you are cutting for, the feed or the product page, before the script is written.
  5. Trend 05 If 7 of 40 still cut between light and dark grounds, choose one ground in the creative brief and hold the wrapper to the product's theme.
