Company Launch Video for Sycope: Renaming FlowControl in 3 Words

When FlowControl became Sycope, existing customers had to hear the new name and new buyers needed a reason to remember it. This company launch video states the rename in its first seconds, introduces the triangle logo and ties it to 3 words: "visibility", "performance" and "security".

The problem: renaming a product customers already know

The video's first line is "FlowControl is changing to Sycope". The YouTube description adds that "Sycope 2.0 has just landed", with "additional fields, new metrics and alarm views, dedicated probe (L7) and long term data retention". That is 2 pieces of news at once: a new name and a new release.

Customers who know FlowControl have to link the old name to the new one, or the rename reads like a new vendor. New buyers have to learn what the new name stands for. In 35 seconds there is no room for a feature tour, so the video does 3 jobs in order: say what changed, show the new mark, and attach 3 words and a promise to it.

How 35 seconds carry the Sycope rename, scene by scene

The rename, the 3 words and the promise are all on-screen text, so they read with the sound off. Select a time to play that scene above.

TimeOn screenWhat it does
A white frame with a pink and red wave. From 0:02 a line types on, and by 0:04 it reads "FlowControl is changing to Sycope".Tells existing customers what changed before anything else happens.
The white frame gives way to iridescent blue and purple 3D liquid, and from 0:08 the outline of the triangle mark forms inside it.Moves the viewer from the rename card into the new brand look.
The Sycope triangle logo on white at 0:12, then 2 lines beside it: "When IT have a question" and "Sycope gives an answer" (0:15). At 0:16 a triangle-shaped wipe opens back into the liquid.Introduces the new mark, says what it does for IT teams, and uses its shape as the cut.
3 words, each beside a glowing network sphere: "visibility" (0:18), "performance" (0:22), "security" (0:24).Gives the new name 3 nouns a buyer can repeat.
The logo, which landed on the last sphere at 0:26, floats free in the liquid, then "Under control now and tomorrow" types on beside it (complete at 0:30).Puts a promise next to the new mark.
The Sycope wordmark on white from 0:32, with the triangle mark as its "o".Ends on the one thing the viewer must remember: the new name.

Storyboard: the frames that carry the Sycope company launch video

Key frames from the finished video, in order. Select a time to play that moment above.

  • Frame at 0:04: the line "FlowControl is changing to Sycope" on white
The rename is stated in plain words before the new look appears.
  • Frame at 0:10: iridescent blue and purple 3D liquid with the faint outline of the Sycope triangle mark
The new mark is hinted inside the new brand texture.
  • Frame at 0:12: the blue Sycope triangle logo alone on white
The triangle mark gets the screen to itself.
  • Frame at 0:15: the Sycope logo beside the lines "When IT have a question" and "Sycope gives an answer"
1 line tells IT teams what the new name does for them.
  • Frame at 0:16: a triangle-shaped wipe opening from white into blue and purple 3D liquid
The logo's shape becomes the cut into the liquid.
  • Frame at 0:20: the word "visibility" beside a glowing network sphere in blue liquid
Word 1 of 3 gets its own beat.
  • Frame at 0:22: the word "performance" beside a network sphere on purple
Word 2 follows on the same layout.
  • Frame at 0:24: the word "security" beside a network sphere on light blue
    Word 3 completes the positioning.
  • Frame at 0:30: the Sycope logo beside "Under control now and tomorrow" over the 3D liquid
The 3 words become 1 promise next to the mark.
  • Frame at 0:32: the Sycope wordmark on white with the triangle mark as its o
The video ends on the new name alone.

4 decisions behind the Sycope company launch video

Decision 1

Say the rename in the first seconds

By 0:04, before the new brand look appears, the screen reads "FlowControl is changing to Sycope". The old name appears once, next to the new one, and never again.

Copy it: If you rename, put the old and new names side by side in the first 5 seconds, in plain words.

Decision 2

Use the logo as the transition

At 0:16 the triangle mark becomes a wipe that opens the white frame into the liquid, so the logo repeats without taking extra screen time.

Copy it: Turn your mark's shape into a cut or a mask, not just an end card.

Decision 3

3 words, one sphere each

From 0:18 to 0:26 "visibility", "performance" and "security" each get their own beat beside a network sphere, with nothing else on screen.

Copy it: Cut your positioning down to 3 nouns and give each its own few seconds.

Decision 4

Leave the 2.0 feature list to the description

Metrics, alarm views, the L7 probe and data retention are listed only in the YouTube post. The video holds the name, 1 line on what it does ("Sycope gives an answer"), the 3 words and "Under control now and tomorrow".

Copy it: Put specs in the post text. Keep the video for what people should remember.

From the FlowControl rename to a 35-second Sycope launch

  1. Message lock. The script was cut to 5 parts: the rename line, the logo, 1 question and answer line for IT, 3 words and one promise.
  2. Logo model cleanup. The Sycope triangle mark was prepared as a 3D model so it could float in the liquid and work as a wipe.
  3. Liquid material and light. The iridescent blue and purple surface was textured and lit to give the new brand its look.
  4. Animation. The liquid motion, the triangle wipe and the 3 network spheres were animated to the length of each title.
  5. Render and kinetic type. Shots were rendered, then the rename line, the question and answer line, the 3 words and the closing promise were composited.
  6. Sound, grade and edit. Sound design, color grading and the final edit brought the cut to 35 seconds.

Scope of work:

  • 3D model cleanup
  • Texturing
  • Lighting
  • Animation
  • Rendering
  • Compositing
  • Visual effects
  • Sound design
  • Final editing
  • Color grading

Production took 3 to 4 weeks on a budget of $1,200 to $2,000. See the motion graphics video production service for how a project like this is scoped.

Questions about the Sycope company launch video

Why does the Sycope company launch video open on "FlowControl is changing to Sycope"?

Existing customers know the product as FlowControl. Stating the rename by 0:04, before the new look appears, links the old name to the new one so the rest of the video reads as the same company, not a new vendor.

Why does the video use only 3 words: visibility, performance, security?

From 0:18 to 0:26 each word gets its own beat beside a network sphere. 3 nouns are easy to repeat, and they give the new name a meaning in under 10 seconds.

How does the video introduce the new Sycope logo?

Its outline first forms in the 3D liquid at 0:08. The full triangle mark appears on white at 0:12 next to "When IT have a question" and "Sycope gives an answer", turns into a wipe at 0:16, lands on the last sphere at 0:26 and closes as the "o" of the wordmark at 0:32.

Why doesn't the video show the Sycope 2.0 features?

The YouTube description lists them: "additional fields, new metrics and alarm views, dedicated probe (L7) and long term data retention". The video keeps its 35 seconds for the name, the 3 words and the promise.

What does "Under control now and tomorrow" do at the end?

It types on beside the logo from 0:28 and is complete at 0:30, the last line before the wordmark. It turns the 3 words into one promise the new name can carry.

How long did the Sycope launch video take to produce?

Production took 3 to 4 weeks on a budget of $1,200 to $2,000, covering 3D model cleanup, texturing, lighting, animation, rendering, compositing, visual effects, sound design, final editing and color grading.
