The 2026 FinTech Video Swipe File: 39 Accounting Tech Explainers Deconstructed for Design & Messaging

Published 14 September 2026 · 23 min read

ADVIDS Research

FinTech here means software that runs a company's finance function: accounting and close, payables, receivables, expenses, payroll, tax, planning and treasury, not consumer banking, trading or lending. A swipe file is a set to copy from; the files hold no views or sales, so nothing here says what worked. 39 accounting tech explainers from 35 companies qualified, uploaded 24 April 2024 to 29 June 2026, 26 of them in 2026 and 13 earlier: 32 run light or mixed frames, 26 carry one colour or none, 30 carry a voiceover, 24 of the 30 scripts name a finance pain and 25 videos name AI. 39 is under the 80-video floor this series sets for a full report, so every share describes a thin set. Savant Labs, Salesforce, Dext and Campfire are among the companies named; the dataset lists every company behind every count.

945 videos were screened against a rule written before any design or messaging field was read; 112 matched a finance lexicon and were read in full, and 39 qualified, from 35 companies. Every one is an explainer, product or launch video for accounting and finance-operations software explainers sold to businesses, runs 0:20 to 4:00, and was uploaded to YouTube between 24 April 2024 and 29 June 2026: 26 in 2026, 9 in 2025 and 4 in 2024. 30 carry a spoken script and 9 carry full visual coding. In this report a video is one qualifying explainer, a company is the one selling the software, and a pattern is a design or messaging choice counted across the set; no period is compared with another.

Do accounting software videos mention AI?

25 of 39 accounting tech explainers name AI, an agent or machine learning in the title or script, and of the 18 scripts that say it aloud, 8 pair it with a reviewer, exceptions or the final say. Dext, Campfire and SAP name AI agents, and Ramp names AI co-workers.

How was this swipe file built?

ADVIDS Research screened 945 videos against a rule written before screening, read the 112 that matched a finance lexicon, and kept 39 from 35 companies. Frames and palettes were computed, scripts were matched to lexicons fixed before counting, and the dataset with every YouTube link ships with the report.

How to read this report

The set holds 39 explainer, product and launch videos for accounting and finance-operations software, from 35 companies, uploaded to YouTube 24 April 2024 to 29 June 2026. "N of M" counts videos: M is all 39 unless the sentence names a smaller base, the 30 with a spoken script or the 9 with full visual coding, and a base under 20 is written as a count. A pattern gets a chapter when at least half its base, and at least 8 videos, carry it. 39 is under this series' 80-video floor, so every share describes a thin set; outcomes are claims the scripts make, never checked.

Pattern 01 · Design · Frame · 39 accounting tech explainers, 24 April 2024 to 29 June 2026

1. 32 of 39 accounting tech explainers run light or mixed frames

32 of 39 accounting and finance-operations software explainers uploaded between 24 April 2024 and 29 June 2026 run light or mixed frames, measured as mean luminance across nine sampled frames: 18 light, 14 mixed and 7 dark. 27 sit on a ground colour in the light band, 23 of them on #E0E0E0, a pale grey one grid step below white, and the median frame brightness is 146 on a 0-to-255 scale, middle half 111 to 191. 10 sit on a near-black or dark ground. The accounting explainer is a pale grey page before it is anything else.

In the still, Rho sets the keyword rules for its expense connector as dark type on a pale grey ground.

Companies in this group include Avalara, Rho, Zoho, Airwallex, etc.

Emburse goes the other way. Its March 2026 Expense Intelligence video runs 1:00 on a black ground, #000000, at a mean brightness of 63, with blue leading the palette.

Pattern 02 · Design · Palette · 39 accounting tech explainers, 24 April 2024 to 29 June 2026

2. 26 of 39 accounting tech explainers carry one colour or none

26 of 39 accounting tech explainers uploaded between 24 April 2024 and 29 June 2026 carry one colour entry or none among the five palette colours the library computes per video, and 16 carry none: every value is grey, white, black or a one-step tint. 7 carry two and 6 carry three or more; 17 have no accent colour. Blue leads the palette in 15, red in 8, teal-cyan in 7, violet-magenta in 2, orange-yellow in 2 and green in 2; 3 carry no hue. Blue appears somewhere in 19 of the 39 palettes. Colour is rationed: one entry at most, and blue is the commonest lead.

In the still, Board draws forecasting widgets in cyan outline on a navy ground, one colour entry among its five palette values.

Companies in this group include Billtrust, Board, Campfire, Corcentric, etc.

Deel goes the other way. Its January 2025 global payroll video runs 2:02 on a violet ground, #4020A0, with 4 colour entries among its five palette colours.

3. 30 of 39 accounting tech explainers carry a voiceover

30 of 39 accounting tech explainers uploaded between 24 April 2024 and 29 June 2026 carry a voiceover and 9 run on music with no voiceover. 29 run 2:00 or less, 20 of them between 0:46 and 1:30; the median runtime is 1:17, the middle half runs 0:55 to 2:02, and the set spans 0:29 to 2:50. 10 run past 2:00. The 30 spoken scripts run at a median 129 words a minute and 158 words. The accounting explainer is narrated, and half the set is done by 1:17.

In the still, Rillion lays out three invoice mock-ups under green and red validation marks, from a 1:21 voiceover video.

Companies in this group include Deel, DOKKA, Emburse, Keka, etc.

Keka goes the other way. Its April 2026 payroll and HR video runs 2:50, the longest in the set, with a 392-word voiceover that walks module after module.

Pattern 04 · Design · Interface · the 9 accounting tech explainers with full visual coding

4. 9 of 9 visually coded accounting explainers show a dashboard interface

Among the 9 accounting tech explainers with full visual coding, uploaded 24 April 2024 to 29 June 2026, a dashboard interface appears in at least one segment of all 9, a title card in 8 and a brand logo card in 7. The interface first appears at a median 0:13, between 0:04 and 0:32, and covers a median 35 per cent of runtime. Interface mock-ups are in the build of 6, flat 2D animation in 6 and screen capture in 3; kinetic type appears as a segment in 5. A data chart appears in 2 and a notification alert in 2. Build codes are medium confidence for 1 of the 9. On a base of 9 these are counts, not shares, and the dashboard is the one constant.

Data charts appear in videos from Salesforce and Savant Labs; notification alerts in videos from Campfire and Rillion. In the still, Campfire lists the tasks its accounting agent is configured to run, as an interface panel on white.

Companies in this group include Dext, Rillion, Salesforce, Savant Labs, etc.

Workiva gives the interface the least time. Its March 2026 video for the office of the CFO runs 0:45, opens on a presenter with floating cards, and brings its dashboard up at 0:19, covering 14 per cent of runtime.

Pattern 05 · Messaging · Pains named · the 30 accounting tech explainers with a spoken script

5. 24 of 30 accounting tech scripts name a finance pain

24 of 30 accounting tech explainer scripts uploaded between 24 April 2024 and 29 June 2026 name at least one of five finance pains. Manual work, spreadsheets, paper or chasing is named in 15, reconciliation in 8, compliance, audit or regulation in 7, errors or duplicates in 5, and the month-end close in 4; 8 name two or more. The 6 that name none open on the product or on a picture of the finished process. Manual work is named in half the scripts; the month-end close, in 4.

The close is named by Avalara, Moss, Savant Labs and Workday. Rillion opens on the question "Still fixing invoice data manually?" In the still, Savant Labs sets its month-end challenge as a slide: data spread across banks, ERPs and PDFs, and manual work slowing the close.

Companies in this group include Moss, Paycom, Payslip, Procurify, etc.

Billtrust goes the other way. Its July 2025 accounts-receivable video runs 1:17 and names none of the five pains: its 146-word script opens on one platform for the finance team and stays on what that platform brings together.

Pattern 06 · Messaging · Outcomes claimed · the 30 accounting tech explainers with a spoken script

6. 26 of 30 accounting tech scripts claim an outcome

26 of 30 accounting tech explainer scripts uploaded between 24 April 2024 and 29 June 2026 claim at least one outcome for the product. These are claims the scripts make, not results this report checked. Visibility, real-time data or control is claimed in 18, time saved in 14, accuracy in 9, and costs, fees or savings in 4. 7 put a percentage or a multiplier on a claim. The 4 that claim none stay on the problem or the product's steps. These scripts promise sight of the numbers more than they promise hours back.

In the still, Salesforce shows a billing dashboard with invoice ageing bars beside an agent panel.

Companies in this group include OneStream, Pleo, Ramp, SAP, etc.

Paycom claims no outcome. Its June 2026 expense-management skit runs 1:00 on the pain alone, receipts, duplicates, approvals and payroll corrections, calls it "a tangled, tangled web of pain" and ends by naming Paycom.

7. 20 of 30 accounting tech scripts carry trust or compliance language

20 of 30 accounting tech explainer scripts uploaded between 24 April 2024 and 29 June 2026 carry trust or compliance language: compliance, audit, governance or regulation wording in 12, approvals, policies or permissions in 8, security or data-protection wording in 7, and a customer count or trusted-by line in 6. 10 carry none of the four. Compliance wording appears in more scripts than security wording, 12 to 7.

In the still, Moss shows a phone notification that someone was mentioned in a request, from a script built on approvals, permissions and spending rules.

Companies in this group include Serrala, Tesorio, UKG, Workday, etc.

Simpro carries none of it. Its April 2026 Fast Cash video runs 1:01 through AI-powered receivables follow-ups in a 63-word script with no compliance, approval, security or customer-count wording.

16 of 30 accounting tech explainer scripts uploaded between 24 April 2024 and 29 June 2026 name none of five audiences: the CFO, the controller, accountants or bookkeepers, the finance, AP, AR or payroll team, or a small or mid-size business. They speak to you and your team instead. Of the 14 that name one, the finance team appears in 9, accountants or accounting firms in 3, the CFO in 2, a small or mid-size business in 2 and the controller in 1; 3 speak to the enterprise. This is the thinnest headline in the report: without Zoho's videos the share naming no role moves from 53 to 48 per cent. Just over half the scripts never say which finance role they are for.

The CFO is named by Billtrust and Workiva; the controller by Workday. In the still, Procurify shows its spend insights dashboard, from a script that speaks to anyone on your team without naming a role.

Companies in this group include Zoho, Simpro, Worldpay, etc.

Ramp names its buyer in the first line. Its June 2026 Stack video runs 1:15 and opens: "Every accounting firm is asking the same question." Workday opens its June 2026 video the same way: "As a controller at a mid-size organization".

25 of 39 accounting tech explainers uploaded between 24 April 2024 and 29 June 2026 name AI, an agent or machine learning in the title or the script: 15 in the title and 18 of the 30 spoken scripts. 6 of the 9 videos with no spoken script carry AI in the title alone. Of the 18 scripts that name AI, 8 also name a person in the loop, with wording for review, exceptions, sign-off or the final say; 1 of the 12 scripts without AI do. Where a finance script names an agent, it names the reviewer beside it in 8 of 18.

Salesforce puts reviewer wording beside AI as "Humans make the decisions. Agents carry them out". In the still, Dext offers auto-apply or manual review for each suggestion its bookkeeping agent makes.

Companies in this group include Expensify, Snowfox, Trovata, Workiva, etc.

Screen capture in the build (visually coded)39Rho, Salesforce and Savant Labs
Names reconciliation (scripts)830Airwallex, DOKKA, Paycom, Payslip, etc.

The five patterns closest to half are shown; each is carried by fewer than half its base, so none gets a chapter. Blue leads more palettes than any other hue (15 of 39) and still falls under half; so do time saved and reconciliation among the 30 scripts.

What to do with this

  1. Pattern 01 If 32 of 39 accounting tech explainers run light or mixed frames, decide in the creative brief whether yours matches that pale page or runs dark on purpose.
  2. Pattern 02 If 26 of 39 carry one colour entry or none, name that one colour in the brief and treat a second as a choice to defend.
  3. Pattern 03 If 29 of 39 run 2:00 or less and 30 carry a voiceover, write the script for a voice and cut it to length before storyboards are drawn.
  4. Pattern 04 If all 9 of 9 coded videos show a dashboard, list the dashboard screens the video needs before production, and decide whether a chart or alert earns its own shot.
  5. Pattern 05 If 15 of 30 scripts name manual work and 4 name the close, decide whether your opening names the generic pain or the finance one.
  6. Pattern 06 If 18 of 30 scripts claim visibility or control and 7 state a figure, decide which claim yours makes and what backs any number in it.
  7. Pattern 07 If 12 of 30 scripts carry compliance wording and 7 security wording, decide which of the two your buyer hears first.
  8. Pattern 08 If 16 of 30 scripts name no finance role, decide whether your first line names the CFO, the controller or the accounting firm.
  9. Pattern 09 If 8 of 18 scripts naming AI also name the reviewer, decide whether your AI script shows who approves the agent's work.

Coding schemeValuesDefinition
Frame themelight · mixed · darkComputed, not coded: mean luminance across nine sampled frames; dark under 90, mixed 90 to 150, light 150 and over, on a 0-to-255 scale.
Ground and palettefive hex values on a 32-step gridComputed from the sampled frames; the first value is read as the ground. A colour entry sits at least two grid steps from grey; a tint sits one step off.
Lead hueblue · red · teal-cyan · violet-magenta · orange-yellow · green · neutralThe hue family carried by the most tinted or coloured palette values; neutral when all five are grey, white or black.
Runtime and audiom:ss · voiceover · music onlyRuntime read from the file. Audio kind as the library analyses it: music only means no voiceover, not no voice at all.
Build and motifsdashboard_ui · title_card · brand_logo_card · kinetic_type · data_chart · notification_alert and moreCoded from frames for the 9 visually coded videos only; a motif counts when it appears in at least one timed segment. Build codes carry a confidence of high or medium.
Finance functionnine groups, one per videoAssigned at screening from title and script: accounting and close, payables, receivables, expenses and spend, payroll, planning, treasury, tax, suites.
Pains namedmanual work · reconciliation · compliance · errors · closeA script names the pain when a listed word appears, such as manual, spreadsheets, reconcile, audit, duplicate or month-end.
Outcomes claimedvisibility · time saved · accuracy · costsA claim the script makes. Time saved is a sentence pairing a time word with a saving word, or faster, in seconds, time saved.
Trust and compliance languagecompliance · approvals · security · customer countsListed words such as compliant, audit-ready, governance, approval, permissions, secure, GDPR or trusted by.
Roles namedCFO · controller · accountants · finance team · small or mid-size businessThe script names the role; speaking to you or your team does not count.
AI and human reviewAI named · human reviewer namedAI, an agent, agentic, copilot or machine learning in title or script; a human reviewer is human, exceptions, review, sign off or final say in the script.
Figures statedyes · noA sentence carrying a percentage or multiplier. Recorded as stated, never checked.
Not codedaltitude · castWhat each video argues and who appears on screen. The library records neither, and this report does not code them.
